Elakkiyaa’s work focuses on using Imaging Spectroscopy to study carbon and water fluxes in terrestrial ecosystems. She aims to utilize hyperspectral datasets from field-based (in-situ) measurements, laboratory analysis, and airborne and spaceborne platforms to better understand and quantify soil and vegetation properties that influence gross primary productivity (GPP) and evapotranspiration (ET) fluxes. She is also interested in Imaging Spectroscopy, Plant and Soil Traits, Gross Primary Productivity (GPP), Evapotranspiration (ET), Carbon and Water Fluxes
